UID is a mandatory Department of Defense requirement on all solicitations issued January 1, 2004. This policy mandates the use of Data Matrix symbology on a large class of equipment and parts procured by DoD. The HE40T reader complies with Department of Defense Standard Practice Identification
(MIL-STD-130).

Once the HE40T decodes the Data Matrix symbol, and, if the Unique Item Identifier (UII), Current Part Number (CPN), and Lot/Batch Number (LBN) are turned on, it checks the ISO 15434 syntax with ISO 15418 (ANSI MH10.8.2 - AI & DI) and ISO 21849 (ATA - TEI) semantics to construct UII, CPN, and LBN.
